Realm and Novelis have brought home 4 2012 Communicator Awards for the internal magazine One. We received one Award of Excellence, meaning that the work received a score of 90 or above on a 100 and received three Awards of Distinction, meaning that the work received a score of 70 to 89 on a 100 point scale.

Excellence

Distinction
One Magazine, Issue 2: Internal Magazine overall
ONE Magazine, Issue 2: Overall Design

“It’s rewarding to be publishing not one, but two of our different client’s magazines,” says Michael Stewart. “With so many moving towards electronic only publishing, we appreciate when a client is brave enough to recognize the value of a tangible deliverable. It really does impact employee engagement.”

According to a recent employee survey, Stewart is correct. The vast majority (92%) responded that the magazine has helped them understand the company’s goals better as well as where they fit in (89%) to the global strategy.  And, most importantly, over 75% of respondents said that they shared a story from One with friends and colleagues. This is s key factor in measuring engagement – the willingness to discuss the topics.

We skipped Tumblr and avoided Instagram, but we sorta like Pinterest! We made a board for our work, where we could just upload things we like. In going through the PDF archives of  "stuff," I have found a ton of things that we could easily forget.

"This is a great format to get a snapshot of our creative product," says Michael. "Just a quick impression of design, message and concept without the burden of a long write-up."

The short-term plan is to keep pulling in pieces of art and design which we are particularly happy with. Maybe add a new board for the ideas that never made it but were just too cool to throw away.

We hope you take a minute to peek! You can see the public board here.

UPS InfographicAs a communication device, infographics have been around a while now. The medium allows the creator to pack in a lot of data in an appealing way that can communicate the message quickly. As the viewer's eye tracks around the graphic, the brain digests the data. It's easy to understand. It's engaging to look at. And, generally, infographics are just less boring!

A new infogaphic is currently appearing on Good magazine's site. The Realm team put together this infographic for UPS to illustrate the company's temperature controlled shipping services. You can see a full size image here.

So, next time you have a batch of data to communicate, reconsider the PowerPoint. Maybe, you could make those pie charts and bar graphs work a little harder so your audience doesn't have to.

Realm is proud to be a diamond sponsor of the Georgia Foreign Trade Conference, once again. Each year, we have worked with the committee to create the marketing and communications for the event to attract a worldwide audience to this unique event.

"This is one of our cornerstone, community events," says Michael Stewart, Realm's Creative Director. "Our footprint in logistics through UPS and the Georgia Ports Authority makes this a a crucial event for us. It is the one event we can attend to gain a clear understanding of trends and currents. We're proud to be a supporter, and see real value in the partnership."

This year, the messaging was focused on the value of connections. Finding new relationships that help foster and build each company's and individual's network in the new, challenging economy. More than ever before, the value of these network connections is being recognized.

About the GFTC
The Georgia Foreign Trade Conference attracts innovative, nontraditional thinkers. Whether container, RoRo, breakbulk or agri-bulk, GFTC panels are driven by the biggest challenges, and opportunities, impacting global trade. December was a busy week for video work! In addition to a recycling piece we put together for Novelis and a sales training suite of videos for SunTrust, Realm and Eventstreams put together this one - Solid Gives Back!

The video shows a real-time construction of a 16 page scrapbook, celebrating some of the key areas that SunTrust has been giving in their communities.

The project was ambitious and exciting! We are lucky to have a client who was willing to step out of the mould and try something truly different.
